Lately, I've been a little pessimistic about him. I don't know, I guess because Kubo keeps stalling the dome, and I really wanna know what happens!!
SOOOO, I wanna talk about him...AGAIN.
The whole business about Vasto Lords is still shady. Kubo brought them up vaguely, yet never elaborated or hinted that any of the Arrancar could actually be them. So far, we can only speculate on whether any of the Espada were actually the Vasto Lords. I really want to believe that Kubo will go back to them sometime later, that it wasn't just some plot hole he's forgotten about.
Remember when Hitsugaya was telling Ichigo about them for the very first time?
The Vasto Lord's helmet looks like Ulquiorra's mask. It's identical - the side ribs and horns.
When Orihime learned about everything that Ulquiorra did to Ichigo, she never got mad, she wasn't even curious to know why. That is a very strange reaction of a girl, supposedly in love, towards the person who killed her love twice. What's more, she left Ichigo in the background and reached for Ulquiorra, THE GUY WHO KILLED HER LOVE IN COLD BLOOD MORE THAN ONCE! There's something going on that we don't know about. And then Ichigo tells us that she is pained for the Espada, meaning Ulquiorra.
Then there is the Heart chapter. Debbie made a very good point about Kubo liking to open new plot twists with the closing of the old ones, like he did with Isshin and Grand Fisher. The Heart chapter is exactly the same way. If Kubo intended to kill Ulquiorra for good, this would've been a very fitting end:
A tragic villain had a touching moment with a girl before disappearing into the wind.Yet, in the very next chapter we get a recap of Ulquiorra's final thoughts where Kubo doesn't only give us the heart throbbing details of the hand reach, but also the fact that Orihime gave him a heart. So, Ulquiorra's death culminated a new plot twist where now we have a hollow with a heart for the first time ever. NOW WHAT?!?!?!
What we have so far:
A vague image of a Vasto Lord that resembles Ulquiorra, and we know nothing about Vasto Lords, and there were no hints that any of the Espada could actually be Vasto Lords. At least I don't think there were any. When Aizen talked about gathering up the Vasto Lords, it seemed like he was talking about a different group, not the Espada. Because at that moment he already had all of the Espada.
Orihime's none-reaction to Ulquiorra's treatment of Ichigo. Orihime's OVER-reaction to Ulquiorra in 353/354.
Ulquiorra = the first Hollow with a heart.
Not to mention other things, like Ulquiorra being the only Arrancar with the 2nd release AND hiding it from everyone, including Aizen. Ulquiorra sucking at his best attack. Ulquiorra pretty much defying Aizen's every order after he brought Orihime to HM. Ulquiorra's adamant desire to fight Ichigo just to make him give up. Basically, he said "Aizen-sama" a lot, yet he never did anything what Aizen told him.
Right.....
So far, Kubo's never left any of his characters undeveloped. Even the most twisted ones, like brothers who wanted to kill their sisters (I am looking at you, Nii-sama), still managed to survive and became "good" later. I never liked Byakuya, and I still don't. During the SS arc, I was 100% sure he would die. Yet, the bastard is still alive and kicking. But Ulquiorra, with so much untapped potential, is kaput?!?!?!?!
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON, KUBO?!?!?!?!?!
